Brenda Laine works from her studio home in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island.
As a trained tailor, she began her career in the 1990’s, using new and vintage fabrics to construct one-of-a-kind artistic women’s coats, exhibiting in fashion shows in Canada and the United States.
She collaborated with a celebrated First Nations’ artist to create a collection of ‘native art appliqué coats and suits for exhibition. And she routinely crafts to add to her collection of ‘fluffy' jackets, a brightly coloured mix of woven mohair and wool plaids, which are occasionally exhibited or on display.
In 2009, Brenda Laine Designs launched its first line of knitwear garments made from washable 100% Merino Wool.
The sustainable knit line now uses a variety of eco-friendly, washable fabrics - 100% Linen, 100% Merino Wool, and Babmboo/Cotton Jersey and Fleece.
Driven to create the most sustainable clothing led Brenda Laine to discover the superior qualities of hemp fiber, and in 2016 her line expanded to incorporate garments fashioned from hemp/organic cotton jersey knit and canvas.
